Hello tinoman,

Thank you for your question. I noticed that the directory in the error is /tmp/wordpress-3.tmp, which is a temporary folder location.

This location (/tmp) is on the server, but not on your account.

I recommend updating the temporary folder location in Wordpress, by editing the wpconfig.php file and adding the following code:
define( 'WP_TEMP_DIR', ABSPATH . 'wp-content/tmp/') ;

This tells wordpress to use a folder within its existing directories, and should also inherit the permissions of a parent folder.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

-John-Paul

Hi John-Paul, thank you very much for your reply.
I changed the permissions for all top directories (www, public html etc.) and added the line in the wpconfig.php file.

However, it now shows me this error:
"Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable."

Any ideas? Thanks for your help ;)

Hello Tinoman,

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the upgrade. If you can please provide us a URL for the exact installation you are updating, then we could take a close look at the issue for you. I am not sure which account is yours and what installation you are referring to, but if you can provide a little more information we can definitely troubleshoot the issue for you and give you a solution. The answer that John Paul was referring to comes from the WordPress forums here: WordPress.org support forums: Destination directory for file streaming does not exist" which then points to this article: Troubleshooting WP master list.

Please provide us more information and we'd be happy to help.

Regards,
Arnel C.
