How does using Password Protected Files affect ftp applications like Filezilla?

Hello coloradofree,

Password protecting files and folders via .htaccess have no effect on FTP. It is specifically for when visitors try to view the site that they receive the password notice.

Filezilla and other FTP programs are administrative level and connect to the server so you can upload and download files to the account. The username and password used to log in is where their security lies.
