I made the mistake of installing Wordpress in a .com/wp directory. I logged into my cPanel and made a Softaculous backup of my WordPress site. I deleted my .com/wp WordPress installation and re-installed a new WordPress on the .com root.

My problem is that when I go to restore the Softaculous backup, it only restores to the original directory (.com/wp) and does not allow me to restore my site to the root (.com) directory.

My other problem is that the Softaculous backup that I downloaded is not compatible with WordPress import and did not allow me to restore my website using WordPress.

Hello Dave99,

The solution to this is really round-about. It's probably much simpler to simply move the Wordpress files into the new location and then make changes. Since you're going to have to this anyway. I will give you two links for immigrating Wordpress - one straight from Wordpress support:

Just make sure to backup your site before you move it, regardless of its location. Then when you're finished moving it, make another backup.

If you have any further questions, please contact technical support or leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

Regards,

Arnel C.
