I am using Wordpress for my website, and have just completed the transfer of the previous host to my new hosting account.

After the transfer of a website from another host to my current webhostinghub account, will the name of the database as shown in wp_config.php change? If so, where can I find the name of the new database, and do I simply change it in this file for the website to work again after changing the nameservers for my domain?

Thank you!

Also, will I be required to re-install Wordpress, and if so, which directory should this be installed under? With the previous host I installed this under heavymetaltribune.com/wp, but when I try installing Wordpress with Softaculous and have the directory name input as wp, it creates a brand new copy of Wordpress. How do I install it such that it links back to the previous copy of Wordpress that I imported?

Hello Optisailor2002,

Thanks for the questions. Database names are based on your cPanel user name. You can find this information by looking in the cPanel under Databases. You can also find more information in this article on updating your WordPress configuration after a migration. In fact, we have a series of articles of the process that you can find in this channel: Migrate your WordPress.

You should find your answers to your questions there. However, just to summarize. By default, Softaculous install WordPress into the domain that you select in the drop-down menu during the installation process. The precise location for the primary domain is the public_html folder. All of the WordPress files would be placed in that location. Re-installing WordPress would be part of the migration process. You would have to copy over content, add themes, and plugins. Then finally migrate the old database. Follow the migration documentation that we provide and you should be able to get it done fairly easily. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards,
Arnel C.
