I am trying to connect to my websites's MySQL database using "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio" on my PC.

I have already entered the IP address of my office in the "remote MySQL" section, and have already set up an account that has access to the specific database I want to manipulate.

When I try to log in with the program on my computer though, it never lets me connect to the database. Is this program simply incompatible with the way the database is set up on my website?

Thanks!

Thank you for your question canfmach!

Looking into this, it appears "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Compatible" can connect to MySQL remotely. Please see the following.

http://www.ideaexcursion.com/2009/02/25/howto-setup-sql-server-linked-server-to-mysql/

http://sql-articles.com/articles/dba/creating-linked-server-to-mysql-from-sql-server/

From those article you should be able to set it up. Looks like the MySQL drivers will need to be downloaded for it.

If you did this already, make sure you have all permissions given to the database user and that the full username is being used. You can try using your cPanel username and cPanel password. The cPanel user has full permissions already. Just make sure you are using your domain, server hostname, or the server IP. You can also add a % to allow all IP addresses to see if the IP is problematic.

You can use other programs that are free. Please see the following.
