Hi, I've recently created a database, and when trying to add to it from my form I get an error meesage "Access denied for user 'geniwa5'@'localhost' (using password: NO)". I've tried all my usernames/passwords with the same result
Can you advise me whether there is any server-side thing I'm meant to do? I can access and push to the tables from the cpanel OK.

Well, I'm going to see if softalicious will solve it.

Hello geniwate,

Thank you for your question. The error you are seeing (using password: NO), leads me to believe you are attempting to connect to a database without using a valid password.

Here is a link to our guide on changing a database password, you can also view the username in MySQL Databases.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

Hi John-Paul,

thanks so much for your answer.

I think the username / password I should be using is the same one I use for the cpanel and ftp. It works for those, but I just tried it again and it doesn't work.

I have also re-tried two other usernames/passwords I created for the database, and they don't work.

Is this the correct pasword?

Should I be installing something via softalicious?

The form is here: http://whereverilaymyhat.net/cities.php

but the password is completely disabled at the moment, because the error message displays it on the screen.

thanks again, Jenny (geni)

Hello Jenny,

Your username looks incorrect as it should be something like this for example:
geniwa5_akgo

For security purposes a password is required to connect to a database, we do not know your password as it is secret to whoever created it.

The username and password you should use is the one you have added to the database you created.

Here is a link to our guide on troubleshooting database errors.

Softaculous is used for installing new software, so it should not be necessary for what you are trying to accomplish.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,

thanks - I think I'm solving it by changing my code. The password I was using was correct, the error message is a little misleading.
