Hello, Thank you for your question about a fatal MySQL error when updating Concrete5. Since the database responded, then went away (2006: MySQL server has gone away), it may have been a momentary server issue. I recommend making a Full website backup, and storing it safely (for example on an external drive). Then, try and perform the update again. Let us know if it completes, or you get a different error.
