Hello paperclip. Domain ownership policy is set by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) so that all registrars follow the same rules. If you purchase or transfer a domain name, it cannot be transferred to another registrar/reseller for 60 days. The owner of the domain is known as the registrant. We enter your personal or business name as the registrant so that there is never any question of ownership. Transferring a domain name to us is $14.99, which is the cost of an additional year on the domain name. Whatever current expiration date is on the domain remains and a year is added onto it. This seems to be the standard practice for other registrars and resellers as well. I am unsure if that is ICANN policy, however. We do not charge any fee for an outgoing transfer, the only charge you should have is that of the registrar/reseller you are moving to. All in all, once you purchase a domain name, it is yours to transfer as you see fit after the initial 60 days. We will certainly assist on our side if you wish to transfer a domain name away. If you are within the 60 days and are using another host for your website, you can point your domain name to the other hosts name servers. This ensures you can still use your site within that time period. Kindest Regards, Scott M |
