Hello puffwad, Thank you for your question. I followed the guide in the link you provided, on a clean installation of Drupal 7, and it is working successfully. We are happy to help, but will need a little more information to troubleshoot the problem. What is happening when you attempt to enable clean URL's? Are you getting any error messages?
