Previously I had email on my laptop and smartphone.
I obtained a second laptop and needed to use if for email also.
I could not remember my email password so changed it via cPanel using the first laptop.
I accessed the laptop using the new password okay.
I cannot access email on the second laptop or the phone despite using identical settings.
I get a response which requires me to check my user name and password. I am using identical username and password on all three units.
The odd thing is that during setup, despite the error message telling me to check my user name and password and a failure to complete the setup process, the Microsoft test message is sent to my email. I can read it on the laptop which has email functioning correctly.
I am setting up in Outlook 2010 on the second laptop.
I use Outlook 2007 on the laptop which has functioning email.
The phone is HTC One and for more than a year it checked emails fine.

Hello ,

Thank you for contacting us about problems accessing email. I first recommend checking your email settings for typos, or misspellings. Make sure you username is your full email address (such as: john@example.com), and try retyping your password.

If your problems persist, we are happy to help, but will need to know the specific email address so we can check the server's mail logs.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.

Thank you,
John-Paul
