Hi,

I was unable to send email from my webhostinghub account to hotmail. It worked fine with gmail.

I read up and saw that http://mxtoolbox.com could help diagnose my domain.

Turns out the issue was the lack of a reverse DNS.

How do I go about fixing this? Thanks!

Hi stonefruit,

When your email is not delivered succussfully, most of the time you will receive a bounce back message, which it sounds like what may have happened in this case.

What should I do if I get a bounce back message?

Email messages can be bounced back for numerous reasons. If you get a bounce back message, it is best to email support@webhostinghub.com about it. We are very knowledge with email server setup, and if you include the bounce back message in your email, we can review it and recommend a possible solution.

You can find more information here about bounce back messages.

Will a lack of a reverse DNS record cause emails to bounce?

Most email servers on the internet have different ways to determine if they should accept an email or not. Some mail servers will check for a reverse dns record, while some won't.

If you wanted to post a comment at the bottom of this page with the following information, I'll be more than happy to review further:

  1. The domain name you checked at mxtoolbox
  2. The exact error message that mxtoolbox gave you.

Is there anything else I can do to help prevent bounce back messages?

I'm glad you asked! If you don't already, I suggest reading more about SPF records and DomainKeys.

I look forward to hearing from you, we should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks,
- Brad
