Hi:

Someone is sending emails with my email address. I have had this happen in the past and it has been someone spoofing my email address to make it look like it came from me. However, when I looked at the headers, the originating address was in South America.

This time, I am getting automatic emails from webhostinghub.com that say that there are emails in my sending queue that cannot be delivered and that the server will retry them. One of the email IDs is 1a9wZt-0001SA-DQ for may account on meaningfuldata.com. Can someone take a look at this because I didn't send these emails and it looks like someone is able to use the outbound SMTP server to make it look like I have.

Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your email spoofing. Spoofing means that an email was sent from a different account than what is displayed as being the sender. Much the same as if I sent a letter from my house, but put some other address as the return address. The routing would be different than if it was sent from the actual sender that is identified, however. It is much the same with email.

The server would not have any record of the actual sent mail if it was not from that server. If the email server does have a record of the email being sent from that account, then it would not be spoofing, but an actual account breach.

In the case of spoofing, properly adding SPF records to your account will take care that. If the account has been compromised, then you will want to immediately change the password and scan all devices that you use to connect to the email server to ensure they are clean as somehow someone has gained access to the email address and password.

Unfortunately I cannot give account specific information here in public, so you will want to contact Live Support in order to find out the status of the situation with your email and what action to take.

Kindest Regards,
Scott M
