We have a new website up but the recorded times of new articles and the cron job seem to be off by about 7 hours.

Running Joomla 1.5.23
the time zone is set for central USA (Chicago)

I have a cron job to backup the sql tables set to run at midnite, but the time stamp on the files indicate 7:00

Hello ebohatch,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your time zone settings for Joomla and cron jobs.

Just to double check, can you confirm that your Time Offset and Server Offset are correct per this information:

Joomla Time Zone Settings.

Since the server your account is on is an east coast server, your Server Offset should be calculated to -1.

While you can adjust the time zone for Joomla (or any PHP based software) the actual server time cannot be altered on the server itself. Since your server is on the east coast, you will want to adjust times for your cron jobs accordingly if you need them to run at a particular time for your timezone. You can confirm your server's timezone by viewing the phpinfo.php file for the server here:

ehub23 phpinfo

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or need further assistance.

Thanks,

Christi N.
