Hi,

I am trying to create a "traditional" mailing list, f. ex. list@domain.com. When you send an e-mail to that mailing list, it will forward the e-mail to all the members on the list.

I have tried create mailing list with PHPlist, however, it seems to me that this mailing list by PHPlist is more a newsletter mailing list. I don't want this kind of mailing list, but rather a discussion list where the members can e-mail f. ex. list@domain.com and the e-mail is distributed to all of the members on the list.

Can you tell me how I can create a such mailing list, please?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Chieudiep,

Thank you for your question regarding creating a Discussion email list. This type of email list is not really compatible with shared hosting due to the number of email messages that can be produced.

On Web Hosting Hub servers there is a limit of 250 emails per hour which can be sent out. Let's use an example of a small list of 50 members. When one person sends an email, the software then sends that message out to 50 people, once someone replies, the software then sends out another 50 emails (with that response). At that point, 100 emails of the 250 per hour limit have already been used and the discussion between group members has only just begun. This can quickly snowball and the the hourly limit for emails will be reached.

There are several options available for discussion lists that should allow you to create the type of list you are looking for. Here are a few I've found while researching this subject:

groups.google.com/
groups.yahoo.com/
onlinegroups.net/

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or need further assistance.

Regards,

Christi N.
