I use Dreamweaver (good old-school v. MX 2004) to build sites for my clients. A current client would like to be able to update and maintain her site herself once I have created it. But she is not versed in html coding or the use of Dreamweaver. Do you have any tips for creating a "hybrid" Dreamweaver/WordPress site which is user friendly to a website newbie? Can I edit the WordPress templates in Dreamweaver, by creating a customized "Child Theme"? Or will WP and DW turn out to be incompatible in unpredictable ways, resulting in God-only-knows-what instances of broken code?

Thank you for your questions Rome_and_Revital!

WordPress is coded in PHP so you can create and edit WordPress templates with it. The only problem is it takes PHP server scripting knowledge. There are sites that teach how to edit or create WordPress themes online. Check the following link.

How to build a WordPress theme from scratch

Only the theme can be edited with DreamWeaver. The content is stored in a database and will need to be created through the WordPress dashboard. It's possible to set DreamWeaver up to connect to the database for WordPress; however, we do not recommend doing this as WordPress has its own way of storing the data.

Hope this helps!
