Hi,

yesterday my account was suspended for a couple of hours due to a chat script that I had made to my upcoming site (http://levelstone.net/humlink). Apparently, it had somehow caused a lot of traffic, and your tech staff had to close my profile to prevent further damage. I just can't understand how it could've caused so much traffic, because I was the only one who chatted yesterday, and by chatting I mean I was just testing how it worked. Today you replied I should remove the script, but I used a lot of time making it, so I'm not very excited about removing the chat. Do you think it would help, if I would just reduce the new message check -time to 5 - 10 seconds? Yesterday it was 1 second, so it would've made 3600 server queries in an hour, IF someone would've been on the site for an hour and keeped the chat window open, which I highly doubt. If it would be for example 5 seconds, the queries per hour would reduce to about 720, which isn't that much. What should I do?

Hello Zaapo,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with your chat script for your site. We recommend, since you are in a shared hosting environment that you integrate a chat feature by using a third-party hosted chat application (not installed on your Web Hosting Hub account). Chat programs are resource intensive and normally do not well in a shared environment.

I did some research online for "hosted chat application" and came up with many results, here are just a couple I found, feel free to research this more and find the right one for you:

RealChat

ChatBlazer

Google Talk chatback
