I have a media gallery of photos of books that I currently own. I have saved links for them individually, that go to the book creators page, in the edit photos section, but they will not link. In the gallery setting on the edit gallery page I have three options: Link to: attachment page, media file, or none. How do I make it link to the link I have saved within each photos settings.

Hello ThePaleoDish, and thanks for your question.

If you would like for your images in WordPress to link externally somewhere, instead of to the image file itself, this can easily be done from the dashboard.

When you create a new page or post, if you click on Add Media and then the Media Library tab, you should see the images you've added to WordPress.

Click on the image you wish to add, then in the options on the right, under the ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS settings, change the Link To drop-down to Custom URL and enter in the URL you'd like people to go to when the image is clicked on.

Please let us know if you had any other questions at all.

I have gotten this to work when adding media individually, but not when added in a gallery. I have added a link in the description box, but they do not link.

Hello again ThePaleoDish,

I apologize, I see what you're trying to do now. Unfortunately when you are adding images into an Image Gallery in WordPress, you are unable to link off to a custom URL by default.

It looks like you'd want to use a WordPress plugin like Media Library Custom Fields which allows you to add extra information such as a custom URL to your media galleries.

Either that or you'd have to go in and make some edits to the WordPress code itself to add the extra functionality yourself.

Please let us know if you had any other questions.
