What is the best way to create a staging site for testing and development of a Wordpress site? I already have the main domain setup to use Wordpress, but would like to use a staging site to test out new plugins before uploading them to the main site.

Hello,

Thank you for your question regarding creating a WordPress staging site to test out plugins before uploading.

You can clone your wordpress site to another location, such as a subdomain, or subfolder. You will have to change the URL in this test site to match the location. Then, make the changes there before testing on your live site.

Alternately, you can easily backup your site in Softaculous before testing, then restore the site if you experience issues.

Also, keep in mind you can disable a plugin by renaming the folder. This is covered in our guide on disabling WordPress plugins.

Thank you,
John-Paul
