I am trying to move a WordPress blog from a subdomain (blog.mysite.com) on our Company's Web site to a sub-directory of my main Web site (www.mysite.com/blog).

Having read the WP codex, I went to General Settings and changed the blog's URL's to the new destination sub-directory, as suggested, then moved all blog files to the new sub-directory.

Note that I have a separate installation of WordPress running in the root directory, as my primary domain site is a separate WP based Web site.

If I read it correctly, the WP Codex advises moving the Web.Config file from the blog's new sub-directory to the root folder. However, that will obviously overwrite the Web.Config file of the main site, which would be bad.

Note: I am running these two WP installations on a server using shared hosting, so I do not have access to the .htaccess file.

Currently, when trying to access www.mysite.com/blog, I get a "500 - Internal Server Error".

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I can reconfigure properly?

Thank you.

Hello,

When moving the wp-config file. the 'root' directory means the root directory (or folder) for that particular domain. So example.com/blog's root would be a folder named 'blog', not the root folder for the entire hosting account.

If you are one of our customers, blog.example.com would already be using the 'blog' folder, so you would only need to change the URL format in WP, but not have to move any files. Also, all our customers have access to their .htaccess files as well as the ability to create new ones where needed. Are you with another host?

If so and you make the proper changes and still get the 500 error. You will want to check with your host to see if they can adjust your .htaccess file

Kindest Regards,
Scott M
