Hi! I have apparently broken Wordpress, and need help fixing it. In the back end of the website, when I'm trying to adjust the menu, it is... squished. It's hard to describe, let me just show you:

http://gyazo.com/81230c5355bb8bd4653d698f6887f89b
http://gyazo.com/fd5dd00ca2c06e6beb6ad1b9299dbb9b

As you can see, the items near the top of the menu page can still be opened and manipulated as necessary, but the ones near the bottom can't be clicked on at all. So, I can't remove them or anything.

I have tried the following fixes:
1. Updating Wordpress.
2. Updating all plugins.
3. Removing all plugins.
4. Trying a different theme.
5. Trying a different browser.
6. Clearing cache and cookies.
7. Crying.
8. Cursing.
9. Howling at the moon and flipping tables.

Nothing's working. Oh, and if it helps, the widget bar is also looking wonky.

Hello,

Sorry to hear your WordPress wp-admin back end has been corrupted. What were the exact steps you performed that caused the back end to corrupt? Was it the installation of specific plugins? Was it a code change? Also, have you tried to create a test environment and port everything over to see if it duplicated?

Kindest Regards,
Scott M

Sorry, I'm the original poster but the portal won't let me log in under my actual username.

I can't think of anything I could have done that would have corrupted it. I updated my plugins, but if disabling all the plugins and themes didn't fix it then that can't be the problem, can it? I haven't touched the code in about six months and it was fine up until a few days ago.

I have no idea what a test environment is or how to port everything over, so no I haven't tried that.

It looks like something could be causing your browser to render things differently. What browser are you using? Have you tried different browsers?

As I said in my original post, that was one of the many things I've already tried. I use Google Chrome by default (Version 39.0.2171.95 m), but I've also tried Internet Explorer and Google Chrome Canary for good measure.

I was going to try logging in from a different device, but my login access has been temporarily blocked by that brute force thing... which may have been my own fault for trying to log in from my phone. LOL.

If different browsers didn't help, the issue may be within your core WordPress files. Reinstalling WordPress may resolve the issue. To keep your existing database information, be sure to make a copy of your wp-config.php file to keep the original intact.

Is there an easy way to do that? I've never had to install Wordpress on WHH; my website was just transferred over from another host.

Installing WordPress can be done via Softaculous. As for backing up your wp-config.php file, you can do so via the cPanel File Manager.

Simply download a copy of your wp-config.php file (as well as any other files that you may want to keep as a backup), install WordPress, then replace your wp-config.php file.

Okay. That's not going to remove any of my themes, plugins, or (god forbid) content, is it?

Your content is safe in the database. As for your plugins and themes, it's a good idea to also backup the wp-content folder which contains those if you don't already have a backup that contains them.

Hello Vldreyer,

Sorry for the problems with your WordPress site. I created a testadmin user and logged into your backend as an admin to see what was happening. I was able to see the menu issue that you were showing. I compared it with a test WP site that I run, and I don't the same issues there, so there's something that was altering the menu behavior. After a little digging, I found that the THEME is actually modifying the behavior of the menus. It's possible that the latest WP update may have knocked something awry with the theme. Unfortunately, we can't fix that ourselves, but you should contact your theme developer and explain what's happening. They should be able to provide the fix.

If they do fix it, please let us know the results! Sorry that we can't fix it for you!

Kindest regards,
Arnel C.

Oh damn, I was afraid it was going to be that. The buggers that made my theme will charge me at least $70 to fix it. >:/

Sorry for the late reply. As you probably worked out from my website, I'm an author and have a book due in a couple of days. Had to finish it before I worry about the website.

Have updated to the latest version of my theme and the problem persists. I'm going to contact the creators and see what they have to say. Will keep you updated. Thanks, guys!

Turns out it was malware in my back end making a mess. Grrrrr, stupid malware! All is well now, though.
