Trouble migrating from Wordpress.com

I followed Memo 304 to transfer my self-hosted (am I using the term correctly?) Wordpress blog to the domain name hosted by Webhostinghub, but the process left behind much of the original design, defaulting to Wordpress 2012 theme, etc. I restored the old theme with tech help, but the blog still looks like a mess. I have no desire to rebuild the new site into a vague shadow of the original Wordpress site. I do not have access to plug-ins there, and talk of php, SQL and ftp confuses me. Someone at fiverr gave me back my $5 saying I needed a cPanel at the Wordpress.com end as well. Lost count of number of video tutorials I have watched. Right now I am simply redirecting my URL to the Wordpress site, but there is no point paying for this "service."

Hello Dgdevil,

I'm sorry you are having trouble with your Wordpress import. There is no need for a cPanel at the wordpress end to transfer your content. The only thing you absolutely must obtain from the Wordpress.com side is the exported xml file, which contains your pages and posts. It appears you were able to transfer that over without issue.

As there is not a method of 'transferring' the plugins and themes from the Wordpress.com end, you simply need to re-install them within your admin dashboard on this side. To find out which ones you have installed, you simply need to log into the admin dashboard on the Wordpress.com side and click on the themes category. There it will list your active theme at the top. You perform the same method for the plugins.

If you are having any specific issues with your import please leave a comment below and we can further assist you.

Best Regards,
Scott M
