When trying to update to WordPress 3.6, I'm getting the following error. Any tips on how to fix? Never had issues updating WordPress before.

Warning: touch() [function.touch]: Unable to create file /tmp/wordpress-3.tmp because No such file or directory in /home/unappr5/public_html/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 179

Warning: unlink(/tmp/wordpress-3.tmp) [function.unlink]: Operation not permitted in /home/unappr5/public_html/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 503
Download failed.: Could not open handle for fopen() to /tmp/wordpress-3.tmp

We're also having this problem. Searches for similar error language said that is could be a hosting issue as certain permissions or server configurations might not be set appropriately. One alternative is to do a manual install of 3.6, but our site is heavily customized so resetting all the Wordpress options wouldn't be time effective.

This is our failure message:

Moderators, please forward this issue to your programming team. A solution cited a couple of years ago for this problem was to grant "755 recursive permissions," but that solution may no longer be viable.

Hello TheShrevest and GeoFree,

Apologies to the both of you for the problems you're having with the WordPress upgrade. In this case it looks you're both having the same problem. It appears to be a temp file issue which is normally an indicator that some type of caching is being done. If you are using caching, please make sure to de-activate the plugin first. Then run the upgrade.

If you continue to have the problem, checkout the following article: WordPress 3.6 upgrade bugs. There are two links here that may give you an answer for the problem you're facing.

Apologies again for the problem and the delay in getting you an answer. Please let us know if you continue to require assistance for this issue. If you do need further help, help us by providing any further error messages, or additional steps in duplicating in the issue.

Kindest regards,
Arnel C.
