I need to put be able to put wordpress into a maintenance mode so the public can't see it, but allow me to see the site as a public user. I need this to see login pages, the front page when the user isn't logged in, so on and so forth. Is that possible?

Hello,

Thank you for your question about putting a WordPress site in maintenance mode. There are so many different ways to do this that you have your pick of many good methods, the easiest of which would involve downloading and installing a "maintenance mode" plugin.

Best,

That isn't what I am asking, because a maintenance mode plugin will deny access for not logged in users, even for testing purposes, at least that as my understanding of maintenance mode plugins. I need to have the public not be able to see it, but me as the web admin be able to see the site as a public viewer, without the public being able to see it.

I also don't get why I can't login to my AMP account, and respond to you. Instead I had to use my Google account to do that. Plus I didn't get any kind of email that you responded. Any idea how to fix that?

Certainly. This is how some maintenance mode plugins work. They will allow complete access to anyone with valid login credentials, but anyone who can log in will be able to view the site as the public would.

But if you would like to view the site without logging (as the public would), you could use a separate development environment and then transfer the site later. Or, you could use .htaccess to allow access only from one IP.

This is a public forum, so your login here is not associated with your AMP account.
