At Web Hosting Hub we utilize shared servers, meaning that limited server resources such as CPU usage, are shared between all the users on the server.
If one particular user is using too much CPU usage, this can lead to excessive server loads for the other users on the server.
Consistently going over your CPU usage limits could result in a warning email being dispatched, or possibly a temporary account suspension if the usage is severe enough. So it's good to be aware of what levels of usage your account is at.
If you've been having problems with high usage on your account you can check out our guide on common causes of a slow website for a collection of possible issues to look into.
Following the steps below, you'll be able to view your account's CPU usage graphs in cPanel, and I'll explain what to look out for.
In the bottom monthly graph, we can see that this is common for this user, and for the past 7 days their usage has consistently been spiking over 100%.
In this case you would want to review your access logs for any problematic traffic that could be causing excessive usage, and you'd also want to be sure to optimize the scripts you're running on the server as much as possible. An ongoing CPU usage issue like this could end up getting your account temporarily suspended, so it's good to know where to look to find this info.
You should now know how to login to cPanel and access your CPU graphs so you can get a clear indication of just how much CPU usage your account is consuming on a daily basis.

It appears that there was a permissions issue within one of the folders on your account. We have corrected the issue and you should now see your usage graph.

Hello LS,
Thank you for contacting us. I looked at your cpu graph and also noticed it is blank. Since this is just our public forum, please reply to the email you were sent and request more detailed information. I have notified our Systems team of your graph, and it should be corrected soon. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, -John-Paul |

It shows a huge spike in my usage on a day when I didn't log in to do anything with the website. What does that mean? |

Hello Larissa,
You don't have to do anything personally to have usage. If you have a lot of traffic then a spike can occur. It can also occur if you get hit by a lot of bots (friendly or unfriendly) or if someone is testing the strength of your site by hitting it repeatedly. Anytime a process runs on your site it uses resources. You will want to watch and see if the spike repeats, that is when it could be a bad thing. Kindest Regards, Scott M |

There is no way to tell what process is using the processing power, so I have no idea what to stop doing. Until you can show me what I'm doing wrong, I can't correct it!
Also, your Resource Usage app does not give zoomable graphics, so it's all just fuzzy numbers with no usable information. |

The images in this article are from the old, very helpful, resource usage app. The current app is absolutely worthless for telling you what's going on because it's shortest timeframe is 2 days! How am I supposed to figure out when things are blowing up? I have no way of seeing which processes are hogging CPU time... why? Why do I have to waste Tech Support's time (and my time waiting on hold for an hour)... They can see what's going on; why are they hiding it from me? |

How do we control this issue? I get log files (have no clue what this is) saying that spammers enter my site causing excessive usage. Also, in which ways can we optimize? This article needs a lot of explaination for us who don't know much about site developing. |

Hello Bikashsoft,
Thank you for contacting us. Optimizing your website will often address many of the issues. The specific steps will differ based on how your website was built. Are you using a CMS, such as WordPress, Drupal, etc. Typically, using caching, optimizing images, etc. will ensure your site is running efficiently as possible. Best Regards, John-Paul |

This very useful tool has been removed from the C panel. Can somebody explain the rationale for this. I used it to monitor my site because I have at times gone over my allotment and received warnings. When I use this tool I can see spikes in usage and can usually trace them to unwanted visitors which I then block.

Hello Carol,
Thank you for contacting us. You can still view the same information (although not in a graph) in the updated Paper lantern by clicking Resource Profile in the Advanced section, then clicking the Resource Information tab. Thank you, John-Paul |

It appears that this useful tool has been removed. I'm trying to find an alternative way to monito my resource usage. I went to the resource proifile page, generate a new report and under resource information this was shown and I would like to know what the numbers mean: Top Process for spmini5 /opt/php70/bin/php-cgi /home/spmini5/public_html/store/index.php /opt/php70/bin/php-cgi /home/spmini5/public_html/store/index.php /opt/php70/bin/php-cgi /home/spmini5/public_html/store/index.php TimePercent UsageHeaviest Process 0:00 - 03:00 21.69 php-cgi 3:00 - 06:00 23.19 php-cgi 6:00 - 09:00 25.06 php-cgi 9:00 - 12:00 29.47 php-cgi Recent0.60 |

"Time" is the timeframe for the reported usage. "Percent Usage" is the percentage of usage for your entire account, and "Heaviest Process" indicates what process name was the most intensive.
