Users of Moodle 2.1 and higher versions may experience an issue when installing Moodle either through Fantastico or manually. Users who install Moodle through Fantastico are able to complete the installation but logging into the administration area of Moodle produces a blank white screen. Users attempting to install Moodle manually receive an error that Moodle requires PHP version 5.3.2.
This is due to a mismatch in the required PHP version for Moodle 2.1 and higher and the PHP version currently available on our servers. Unfortunately, upgrading servers to PHP 5.3 is not a viable option at this time. This could potentially break other software that customers are using for their websites.
There are two solutions for resolving this issue:
Modifying the lib.php file in Moodle 2.1 versions and higher (most efficient option)
