SEO- Search Engine Optimization - is available in PrestaShop to help make the products in your catalog appear with a higher rank or position when searched.  The following tutorial will show how to find and make the SEO entries within the Prestashop Administration Panel.

Adding  SEO to Products in the Catalog

  1. Login to the Prestashop 1.5 Administration Panel as an Administrator
  2. Go to  the menu bar and hover over CATALOG until the drop-down menu appears. Click on PRODUCTS
  3. If you are managing an existing inventory, you will see a list of your products.  Select one of your products and then click on EDIT. Otherwise, select ADD NEW from the top right hand side of the screen in order to add a new product to your list.  Here's a screenshot of a product list:

The entries above are described in the table below:

Meta Title The title of the product page
Meta Description A short paragraph used to describe the product; typically a teaser or succinct summary that will lead
    to interest in the product
Meta keywords Keywords used to describe product
    Friendly URL

A Search Engine Friendly (SEF) URL is usually a URL created to describe the page instead of a code that may
have been generated to link to the page.  Ex: http://URL.com/134f1e.html  versus http://url.com/this-is-a-friendlier-url
  4. Select each field as listed in the table above and type information on the product as required.  Please review instructions below for specific fields:

META DESCRIPTION - Keep it short; typically within 160 characters (including spaces)
META KEYWORDS - When using multiple keywords, separate using a comma
FRIENDLY URL - keep short and simple.  Try not to make the friendly URL a sentence; additionally, you can have a friendly URL created for you by simplyg
  5. Select SAVE in order to save your entries

The result of using a meta description is best often seen in search engines, it will not be something a customer will see directly in Prestashop.  Here's a screenshot from a search for a test site product in Prestashop:

Note that the URL shows a friendly URL and the Description is short and attempts to grab your attention.
