If you need to change the file type of an image, for example from .bmp to .jpg, there are many different programs that you can use.  For this example we are using GIMP, which is a free image editor.  Please read this article for information to assist in downloading and installing GIMP.

First, open GIMP and use File -> Open to open the image that you want to change the file type of.  In this example, we will edit the logo for Web Hosting Hub which is a jpg image.  When your image loads in GIMP, it will look similar to this:

Next we will save the file as a different type.  Click on File -> Save As in the Toolbar and the following page will display.

imagetype1

As you can see, currently it is a jpg image.  Click on the link at the bottom that says "Select File Type."  This is where you can choose a different file type to save your image as:

imagetype2

In this example, we will change it to a .gif file.  Scroll down on the list to select .gif option, and the title will now show it is a .gif file:

imagetype3

Click "Save."  With some file types such as .gif, it will ask you if you want to export the image first:

If it does, click "Export" and then "Save."  Now your image has been saved in a new format.
