We have gotten many contacts recently regarding an email that seems to have been sent by WordPress. This email is about an automatic update. The email text appears as:
You can relax. The email is indeed legitimate and does not contain any spam or links to malware. It is not a malicious email, but a newly implemented feature.
As of WordPress 3.7, this is a default behavior for minor updates. These types of updates are for maintenance and security purposes. Major updates are not automatically enabled by default.
While we highly recommend not doing so, this feature can be disabled. You can find instructions on how to do so here.
