Sometimes you will want to see what your site looks like before everyone else can see your site as well.  This can be done by viewing your site on the temporary URL we provided you when you first opened your account.

What is my Temporary URL?

Your temporary URL can be found in your Technical Details in your Account Management Panel (AMP). It will be in the format of:

http://ehub##.webhostinghub.com/~username

... with the ehub (or whub) being replaced by your server number and "username" being replaced by your cPanel username.

What does my Temporary URL do?

When you visit your temporary URL, it loads the files you've uploaded to your public_html folder.  So that your visitors can see your website, make sure your index page is in the public_html folder.

Using the Temporary URL to test an addon domain:

If you're testing an addon domain, the addon domain pages are within a different folder than public_html. If you configured an addon domain called domainBB.com for example with a document root of public_html/domainbb.com, you'll use the following format when using your temporary URL:

http://ehub##.webhostinghub.com/~userna5/domainbb.com

Why does my site not load correctly on the Temporary URL?

If on your temporary URL your site is not loading correctly after migrating your site from a different host, there are a few different possible causes.

  • Case sensitivity:
    Linux servers are case sensitive but Windows servers are not, so if your prior host used Windows servers make sure that all your folders and file names have the same case (for example, Images instead of images or Movies instead of movies)
  • You are using Absolute Paths:
    When linking images on your website, you can use an absolute path or a relative path.  A relative path looks like images/image2.jpg while an absolute path will look like /images/image1.jpg (notice the first forward slash).  This same concept applies to all of your files, not just your images. For example, if you are using css files or javascript files, you'll want to review your code to ensure you are calling those files correctly.  If an Absolute Path is used it may not load from the correct folder.  This can be corrected by changing your links to using the relative path.
  • Your software is Domain Specific:
    Some software programs, such as WordPress and Drupal, are domain specific. This means that your site only displays properly on the exact domain specified in the configuration file for the software.  If you are viewing the site on the temporary URL, your site will not display correctly.  While this should resolve itself once the DNS changes are made, you can also make some quick and simple changes to your configuration settings to point to your temporary URL for testing purposes.  For step-by-step instructions on how this is done for WordPress, please see our article Installing WordPress on your Temporary URL. Hi i have made a website using your web builder tool for www.tayladstyling.co.nz i already have an active website for this domain hosted with webhosting loaded and live via public_html i want to be able to view the site i have made in web builder live to see if it is working ok reading the info about viewing live via temporary url it says will load files to public folder if i do this my current site will be deleted (i had this issue trying to load wordpress) how can i view it without removing current site? also is there a way to load google vewrification and tracking codes to the site in web builder as these are loaded on my current live site

Hello Carolyn,

Thank you for your question. On Steps 1-3 in the Builder, there is a Preview button on the bottom right of the page. When you click it, you can preview the website in a browser, without publishing to your folder.

You can setup google analytics with the Builder, which is explained in this guide.

Hi there,

When using my temporary URL as stated in my AMP account, my iPad says

Safari cannot open the page because the server cannot be found

Any ideas of what needs doing?

Hello Mark,

I'm not sure why Safari wouldn't be able to open your temporary URL. Are you able to access it just from a computer on the same network as your iPad?

Make sure that you're using the correct server name of http://ehub41.webhostinghub.com/~userna5 where the userna5 would be your cPanel username.

Please let us know if you're still having issues with that URL.

The server name is correct: copied from AMP.

I tried to log on to the temporary URL on a Sony va10 using the same wifi router (don't know if this a network?)

sony says oops this link appears to be broken did you mean www.google.co.uk

Sorry to say but this whole set up with webhostinghub seems poor value at the moment; need some help and inspiration.....

Please provide us with the URL you are trying to use. I've tested your account's temporary URL and it's working from multiple devices, so I'm assuming something is off with the link that you're using.

Hello Mark,

In both your examples, you want to make sure that you're using the TLD .com after the domain name so your web-browser actually makes it to the server.

http://ehub41.webhostinghub.com/~userna5

Also if you're trying to work on a WordPress website, or many other CMS applications, you would more than likely want to modify your hosts file. Or you could also setup WordPress for a temporary URL.

Yes as this is a public article of ours that you're commenting on we don't want to leave any private information in the comments.

The same still holds true though for what I've said, try to use the same URLs that you are using, but make sure they actually have .com at the end of the domain name, otherwise a device will have no clue what server to look at.

Also I'm not sure why you're trying to use the temporary URL to your site. It looks like the domain name is pointed at our server. You just need to be sure to use the full domain name, including the TLD (Top Level Domain) at the end that all domains have (.com, .net, .org, etc...).

Can you help me?  I am trying to set up my email access on my iphone.  However, I am having a lot of difficulties trying to find what server I am on.  If you could, I would greatly appreciate it if you can email my what server I am on.

Hello Paul,

Sorry you're having problems with your iPhone. However, since you didn't give us any account information, it would be difficult at best to tell you what server you're on. The good news is that you can easily determine the server you're on by going to your Account Management Panel (AMP). Your HOST is the server setting that you're looking for. You can also view the instructions in finding your email settings, to also find your email server settings.

I have transfered my index.html file to the Hub host and have tested using the temporary UL. Does not work. I have checked all the reasons that you claim it does not work and as far as I can see everything is as it should be.

If I click on index.html and open using FireFox it opens but the .css styling is not applied. This may be part of the problem with the UL not working but I don't know that. I don't think this should be that difficult but I am at the point now that I have no isea what to do other than say The Hell with It I'll just stay with Yahoo! and ask for my money back.

Can you look at index.html and.css and tell me what I may have wrong, they work at Yahoo! whay not on your host? If You can not help me then I guess I'm done.

Taking a look at your site, it looks like you moved your files over and the CSS is loading, but you are missing most of your images. Transferring your images over should fix the issue.
