When you create articles you have the option to set the "Alias" to specific text. An Alias is what is used to find an article in your Joomla Site. These are also called "Search Engine Friendly URLs" which are designed to Optimize your site for web searches.

Default alias in Joomla 3.1By default, Joomla will use the title of the article in lower case separated by dashes. See image to the right. You can change this to your specific need. The following steps will teach you how to change the Alias for your articles in Joomla.

Changing the Article Alias Joomla 3.1

  1. Log into your Joomla Admin Dashboard.
  2. Select teh article to change Joomla 3.1Go to the "Article manager" and click the article you want to change the alias for.
  3. Click publish option Joomla 3.1Click "Publishing options".
  4. Change the alias Joomla 3.1Type in a new alias.

    Note! Make sure you type the alias all lower case and separated by dashes like my-custom-alias.

    Save the changes.

    New alias in Joomla 3.1Now when you visit your article you will see the new Alias in the address bar like the snapshot to the right.
