Getting Started Guide : FTP

To upload and manage your website, FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the preferred method for many website designers. To connect to your site via FTP you can use software such as Dreamweaver or iWeb, or an FTP client such as FileZilla or CuteFTP. These programs will allow you to load the website files that are on your computer directly onto your server. FileZilla can be downloaded from their official site: http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

FTP Basics:

To connect to your account via ftp, you need the following information:

FTP Host	You have several options for your FTP host:	- yourdomain.com - ftp.yourdomain.com - ehub##.webhostinghub.com
FTP Username	cPanel username or other FTP account username	Your cPanel username is also an FTP username
FTP Password	********	Use your cPanel password if using your cPanel username for FTP. Otherwise, use the password you set for the FTP account you are using.

Other Settings:

Passive Mode: If you are having any issues connecting, enable Passive Mode
Port: The default port for FTP traffic is 21

Please note, if your domain is not currently pointed to our Nameservers, or was pointed to our Nameservers during the last 24 hours, you will want to use your server name for your FTP host.

Your server name will be either ehub##.webhostinghub.com or whub##.webhostinghub.com (replace ## with your server number).

How do I give other users FTP access?

You may need to provide FTP access for others as well. For example if you have a web designer, they may need access to the files on your account. While it is not recommend to give out your cPanel username and password, you can create FTP accounts that only have access to the folder that you specify. FTP accounts can be created in cPanel under the FTP Accounts section.

You can also view, modify, and delete any FTP accounts already created. This is useful if you cannot remember a username, need to change the password, or need to delete an FTP account if it's no longer needed.

Directory Stucture:

It's important to understand what directory to upload your site files to. If you are working with your primary domain name, public_html is the document root. If you are working with an Addon domain, the document root will be something like public_html/addondomain.com For more information on directory structure and your document root, please see our article on which directory you should upload files to.

I am looking for the authorization code or EPP code and for my web site to be in an unlocked status. How do I get that?

Thank you for contacting us today. To get your AUTH, or EPP code, you will have to request that your domain management rights are released.

You will then be able to request the EPP/AUTH code from our registrar directly.

I need help restoring my htaccess file. I typed in what was suggested on the help page as DirectoryIndex default.html. What am I missing? The site does not load

We are happy to assist. Default.html will only display our Coming Soon page. Is there a particular page you want to display? or did you make your home page named default.html? If you are a customer and can reply with your domain name we can take a look at the htaccess file and find why it is not working for you.

I was going through the instructions to configure the FTP (FileZilla) file, and when I got to step 5 where I had to download and clicked 'OK', it came back with a box saying: FileZilla.xml, File not found, check the FileName & try again. So I tried Again

Select the XML file you have just downloaded and click OK.

FileZilla.xml is in a folder on my computer.

Am I missing something, do you think you can clear this up for me?

Hello Eugene,

I am not sure what Step 5 you are referring to as there are no steps in this article. I was able to download and reinstall FileZilla without issue. You may want to try again to see if it helps. It is very hard to guess as you are installing onto a local computer and not a hosting server.

Hello Emeraude,

Sorry that you're having problems with the FTP. If you're having problems with the authentication, then we need to know what settings you used to login. It should match your cPanel login information directly. Take a look at the answer to this question in regards to cPanel User name and password. Make sure you're using it for your cPanel login info for the FTP credentials (as detailed in the article above).

If you continue to have the problem, please let us know what credentials and URL you're using to login.

Hello ,

I tried to connect for first time with filezilla and after log all data as domain name , port number and host name , the acces is refused , it is write impossible to connect te servor ....

I put the same password than my hosting password .

What should i do ,please ?

Hello julien,

Thank you for your question. I would first check your hostname, to make sure it is pointed to our nameservers.

As a test you can use the Shared IP as your hostname.

If you are getting an Authentication error, ensure you are using the correct cPanel username, and cPanel password.

I have all the correct info listed, but keep getting:Status: Connecting to 205.134.224.133:21...Error: Connection timed out after 20 seconds of inactivityError: Could not connect to serverNot sure how to "enable Passive Mode" Please help?

Thank you for your question. You can get to the passive settings, by going to Edit-->Settings-->Connection-->FTP-->Passive mode.

If your problems persist, I recommend contacting Live Support, so they can review the FTP logs in real time, while you are connecting.
