In this article, we'll discuss the differences between addon, parked, and subdomains.
If you've recently registered a new domain or pointed a domain registered elsewhere, you'll need to add the domain to your cPanel as either an addon domain or a parked domain in order to host the site here. Registering a complete separate domain name isn't required to create a separate area within your site, a subdomain may work for you in some cases.
The answer to this question depends on how you want to use the domain.
An addon domain allows you to host a website that is separate from your primary domain. This feature allows you to host as many separate websites as you would like, each with a different domain name. For example, your primary domain might be domainname.com and a new addon domain could be newdomain.com. For step-by-step instructions on how to do this, please read this article How to create an Addon domain.
A parked domain name allows you to add a domain to your account that will be pointed to the same content as your main domain. For example, if we had webhostinghub.com as our Primary Domain, we could add webhostinghub.net and webhostinghub.org as Parked Domains which would lead any visitors to the content located on webhostinghub.com. This is also useful if you have a long main domain name but want to use a shortened version of that domain name for email addresses so your customers don't have to try and remember a long email address. Please read this article for more information on how to add a parked domain. There is no limit to the number of parked domains you can add to your account here at Web Hosting Hub.
A subdomain is like a "Domain within a Domain." You may use a subdomain if you want to create a new section of your website that is separate from the rest of the website, such as a blog. For example, a subdomain name of webhostinghub.com could be store.webhostinghub.com or support.webhostinghub.com. Please read this article for more information on how to create a subdomain.

Hello Alan,
Thank you for contacting us. For the site to come up in a browser, make sure it is pointed to WebHosting Hub's Nameservers. Also, be sure to allow time for new domains/DNS changes to propagate. Thank you, John-Paul |

Hello Pere,
I am sorry, I am not clear as to what you are asking. It sounds like you are unhappy with your current host and want to possibly transfer your site to us. If so, will the entire site be accessible via the cPanel. If that is your question, then the answer is Yes. The entire site will be accessible via your cPanel. If your question is different, please try once more providing as much detail and/or examples as possible. Kindest Regards, Scott M |

Hello, I have an existing website account for jck-consulting.com that I want to replace with content for a new domain that I just registered here (lighthouseartdesign.com). What is the best way to make this switch?
Thanks, Jocelyn |

Hello Jocelyn,
If you want to keep the other site, you can simply add the new domain as an addon. This is the easiest way. If you do not want to keep the domain, then you can delete the files and then upload the files for the new site. After that, you can perform a Primary Domain Name Change within your AMP. Hello Lauren,
Thank you for your question. Yes, you can use the tools for another website. Begin by adding the new domain to your cPanel as an Addon domain. The cPanel tools will then be available to the new domain. Thank you, John-Paul |

Hello Cheri,
Thank you for your question.. If the site you are replacing is your primary domain, we have a helpful guide on Replacing your Primary Domain with Another Website. You can then addon the old domain as an addon, and redirect it to the new site. This will forward anyone going to the old site to the new one. Keep in mind, we do not have any control over search results. I recommend using Google's Webmaster tools to analyze and affect your search engine results. Thank you, John-Paul |

You say "If you've recently registered a new domain or pointed a domain registered elsewhere, you'll need to add the domain to your cPanel as either an addon domain or a parked domain in order to host the site here." Well, I pointed a domain registered elsewhere. So I have to add it as either a addon domain or a parked domain? I don't want an addon domain, I want the domain itself to be hosted here. I don't want a parked domain which has no content of its own. This is very confusing.

Hello Bill,
Thank you for your question. If the domain you pointed is not your Primary Domain, it must be added to your cPanel somehow. This is from our full article titled Adding new domains: Addon, Parked, and Subdomains. Hello Steve,
If you want to give a designer specific access to a portion of your account, you will need to give them access to the website files via FTP. This works best when the add-on domains are in separate folders underneath the public_html folder. Creating an FTP account allows you to specify a specific folder. The designer will only be able to make changes in that location. If they require access to the database, then you will need provide access to them using the remote MySQL database option. This requires that you have the user name and password of the specific database associated with the website. You will also need the designer's IP address in order to allow the connection. The designer can then connect to the database using a database client such as phpMyAdmin or Heidi SQL. I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance. Regards, Arnel C. |

How can I access the web admin? I know how to log on to control panel and databases. However, I am trying to find the simple web form for (non-technical) person to log on. So when I enter my admin, Saydalee.com/admin, the link seem to be not working. |

Hello Erika,
It sounds like you're paying for 2 different hosting services. You really need only one, but you can always build your site in one location and then move it another. If you register a domain, you can always point to any host as long as you know the appropriate name servers. Check out How do I change my name servers for more information. I hope this helps to answer your question, please let us know if you require any further assistance. Regards, Arnel C. |

I just bought a new domain, and want to eventually replace my current one with this new one. Lets just call the current one X and new one N. How do I do this in my cpanel and how do I still keep both emails since they are totally different domain names. I know I will have to check the old one for some time until I completely do away with X website. Would love some help with this. Thanks

Hello Patricia,
Thank you for contacting us. Since you want to keep the old domain active (for email), simply add the new domain as an Addon domain. This lets both sites function independently. If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below. Thank you, John-Paul |

I have two domains registered (i.e abc.com & xyz.de), both working. abc.com site is hosted by you. The second site xyz.de is created as an addon and going through first site. Everything works and shows up but browser url bar shows second website as abc.com/xyz.de/ Is there anyway it could show up just as xyz.de so people visiting this site don't get confused by address in bar? thanks |

You can set up xyz.com as an addon. But it must be a registered domain to work the way abc.com does.

Hello guys
i have several questions i need to ask before i leave my current webhosting provider and switch to yours..
suppose i want to load my primary domain from a subfolder. like www.mysite1.com loads from "public_html/site1".. i understand the standard url would be like "www.mysite1.com/site/" when someone types in the browser, but is it possible to overide it with .htaccess file to change the url from "www.mysite1.com/site1/" to "www.mysite1.com" and if so, is this supported by your support team to set it up? cause i'm not very good at apache commands. your webhosting "Nitro" plan says unlimited hosting, does it mean i have some sort of quota with files and websites i'm going to host with my accounts?
if i want to move from my current hosting provider, is there a way to move my mail boxes with all their emails in each mailbox, to the new server? is there any domain LTD that your hosting doesn't support? like www.site.ph or www.site.ru or www.site.ir thanks for your help in advance.

I am managing web/facebook presence for gbdirectionalservices.com and gbdirectional.com. We registered gbdirectionalservices first, then decided we want a shorter domain name, so we registered gbdirectional.com and asked to have it made the main domain, with the intention of letting the services one expire. I had set up a Word Press website for gbdirectionalservices, but can't get it to open any more. Do I need to reinstall Word Press and totally rebuild the website? Are there any other things I need to do to make this set up right? |

Since you do not have access to change your URL in the dashboard, I recommend changing it in your wp-config.php file. For example, you should change it from "gbdirectionalservices.com" to "gbdirectional.com". You can force this change by adding the following line to the top of your wp-config.php file:
define('WP_HOME','http://gbdirectional.com'); define('WP_SITEURL','http://gbdirectional.com'); Here is our guide on editing files. Here is the official WordPress guide on changing your site URL. Thank you, John-Paul |

I registered my domain (shankodesign.com) with godaddy.com and am trying to host the page here. I have changed the nameservers to point to you but I am having a problem activating it as an addondomain in cpanel since it is registered there as the main domain. |

Sigrun, if your domain shankodesign.com is the main domain, you won't need to add it as an Addon domain. DNS records for it should already exist in our nameservers.
