In this guide we will show you how to perform a database backup. Then you can download and store the backup yourself. We always recommend performing regular backups, and saving them in case of an unplanned problem. Things such as disk failures or a hacked website can cause major problems. In these cases, your site can be restored with the latest backup you have saved.

Backing up a Database

  1. Login to your cPanel.
  2. Click the Backups button in the Files section of cPanel.
Clicking Backups in the Files section of your cPanel
  3. Scroll down to the Download a MySQL Database Backup section, and you will see the Databases listed. Click the name of the database you want to save. In my example, I am clicking examp247_wp134.

  4. Save the backup file to your computer. Also, we highly recommend storing the backups on an external hard drive, or a CD/DVD disc.

Congratulations, now you know how to backup your database from cPanel! You can restore your website from the backup if there is ever a serious problem.
