In the previous tutorial we explained what Wordpress plugins and widgets are. One of the great features of WordPress is the ability to quickly download and use free plugins to help enhance your website.

Find & Install a WordPress Plugin:

  1. Login to your WordPress Dashboard. Once logged in, click Add New under Plugins.
    plugins1
  2. Using the search feature provided in WordPress, search for a plugin.
    plugins2
  3. In this example, we searched for "facebook" to find a plugin that will add a link to my posts on my Facebook page.  Once the search results display, click Details to read more about the plugin.

  4. If you would like to use the plugin, click on Install Now:
    plugins4
  5. After the plugin has been installed, click Activate Plugin to activate and begin using it.  Some plugins will allow you to make additional changes to the settings.  To change the settings of your plugin, click on the Settings menu option on the left to access the settings for your new plugin.

Hi there - I believe that I have installed and activated the Simple Coming Soon plugin but there doesn't look to be any change to the face of my webpage. Any ideas why? I have followed the instructions word for word

Many thanks

Hello Mark,

Each plugin that you install will typically have some settings that you need to manage. In your case when using the Simple Coming soon And Under construction WordPress plugin, after installing the plugin you have to hover over Settings in your WordPress dashboard and then click on Simple Coming Soon.

From there you need to change the Site state drop-down to Coming soon page, instead of the default of Usual, running site. You can then click on the Theme Options tab in order to adjust your coming soon page.

Please let us know if you had any further questions at all.

- Jacob
